The Landworkers’ alliance are a organisation of people who make their livelihoods from producing food, fuel and fibre using sustainable methods of production.

The Landworkers’ Alliance works to raise the profile of the role of small-scale producers and family farms, and the obstacles they face, both to the public and to government. In doing this we campaign for better policy to support small-scale producers and family farms, agro-ecology and food sovereignty.

We aim to build strong alliances both nationally and internationally with like minded organisations and to build our own membership, while encouraging solidarity and relationships between members and supporting members to get involved with our campaigns.

We are members of La Via Campesina, the international peasant farmers union, and work in solidarity with our fellow land workers across the globe.

The Land Workers’ Alliance is a coalition of producers meaning that membership is open to anyone who is actively involved in food, fuel or fibre production. The co-ordination brings together like-minded producers to identify and organise targeted campaigns and lobby UK and European parliaments on issues affecting the livelihoods of small-scale producers. The organisation will also provide a network for producers to share farming skills and knowledge through training, tours and working groups.

The Landworkers’ Alliance is a not for profit co-operative company limited by guarantee: Our company number is 9386794.

Central to our identity is the campaign for Food Sovereignty launched by Via Campesinain 1996 and defined as – “The right of communities to define their own food and farming systems”.

In practice food sovereignty describes the way farm shops, farmers’ markets and local box-schemes already connect producers and consumers across the UK today.  While many farmers are associated with existing unions in the UK, Via Campesina is unique in offering a direct link to the activities and experiences of like-minded producers across Europe, and the rest of the world.
