Myrna Cunningham is the first Miskitu woman to study at a university. In 1973, she received a degree in medicine and returned to her home region in the isolated northeast of Nicaragua, where she was born in a small village surrounded by lush forest. Working as a surgeon, she served in more than one hundred remote villages.

El Centro de Asistencia Legal Para Pueblos Indígenas (CALPI) es una organización no gubernamental con personería jurídica otorgada por la Asamblea Nacional de Nicaragua por medio del Decreto No. 1316 del 27 de mayo de 1996, publicado en La Gaceta Diario Oficial No. 135 del 18 de junio de 1996.

Sulá Batsú nació en el 2005 como una empresa de economía social solidaria con el objetivo de fortalecer organizaciones, comunidades y empresas sociales de la región latinoamericana. Esta iniciativa se creó bajo un modelo de cooperativa autogestionaria, con la visión de explorar nuevas formas de gestión de emprendimientos asociativos interesados en la acción social.
