Land Reform in Uzbekistan
FIRST PARAGRAPH OF CHAPTER: Uzbekistan emerged as an independent state in September l99l with a legacy of an undiversified monocultural agriculture heavily specialized in cotton. During the Soviet era, cotton production in Uzbekistan registered persistent gains from the very beginning of collectivization in 1928, often at the expense of wheat and other cereals.
External finance for rural development
This country case study summarises key findings from a country analysis of financing for rural development in Uzbekistan. It is one of 20 analyses that is synthesised for comparison in Prizzon et al. (2020).
The case study has two main objectives:
• to map demand from the Government of Uzbekistan over the next five to 10 years for external development assistance to support public investment in inclusive and sustainable rural development

Agricultural risks and farm land consolidation process in transition countries: The case of cotton production in Uzbekistan
Cotton production substantially contributes to the GDP of Uzbekistan. It is produced under a state procurement policy, according to which farmers have to allocate half of their land for cotton, fulfill cotton output levels and sell the entire harvest of cotton to the state. Land is state owned and a land consolidation process is in place, where land allocated to a farm can be reduced if cotton production targets are not met.

Social Policy and Empowerment of Women in the Agricultural Sector in Uzbekistan
In 2016, Uzbekistan celebrated twenty-five years of independence. Although government prioritized investment in agriculture sector, the social policy emphasized strongly institutional and organizational changes. As a result, women are mostly excluded from reforms’ benefits. This paper provides a critical literature review that addresses how international gender measurement indicators and methodologies help in understanding women’s empowerment and opportunities in the agriculture sector of post-Soviet Uzbekistan.
Chinese development firm signs deal to develop Brunei fishing port
A Chinese state-owned company has signed a deal to redevelop and manage a fisheries port in Brunei.
China's Guangxi Beibu Gulf International Port Group has signed a deal to expand and run the Muara Fish Landing Complex alongside its partner Brunei's Darussalam Assets, a government-backed investment agency. The two jointly own the Muara Port Company Sdn Bhd, a joint venture set up in 2017.
