I grew up on a dairy farm in the Midwest United States. Served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Nepal, where I lived and worked with Tibetan-speaking yak herders. Worked as a cowboy on large cattle ranches for many years in Montana; obtained a Master's Degree (range management) at the University of Montana. For the last 30 years have been involved in work with nomads and livestock development and management and conservation of rangelands in Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nepal, and Pakistan.
