BHUBANESWAR: Four bills including the much-awaited Odisha Land Rights to Slum Dwellers Bill, 2017 were passed in the Assembly on Wednesday.Introducing the Odisha Land Rights to Slum Dwellers Bill, 2017 in the Assembly, Housing and Urban Development Minister Niranjan Pujari said it is a historical decision of the State Government to provide land and housing units to the urban poor living in different slums. The Bill will provide land to slum dwellers residing in Municipalities and Notified Area Councils (NACs) of the State.

After attempting to reclaim public land from land sharks, the state government has now set its eyes on the higher education institutes.
Alarmed by the large-scale land grabbing in and around universities, the higher education department has now cracked the whip on land sharks. Among all the universities, Bangalore University tops the chart with the highest extent of land being encroached upon.
The legislation retroactively authorizes some 4,000 illegal settlers homes built on private Palestinian property while financially compensation the Palestinian land owners.
The Settlements Regulation Law which seizes private Palestinian property meets both Israeli and international legal standards, the state said on Monday evening.
