GODAN supports the proactive sharing of open data to make information about agriculture and nutrition available, accessible and usable to deal with the urgent challenge of ensuring world food security.  It is a rapidly growing group, currently with over 317 partners from national governments, non-governmental, international and private sector organisations that have committed to a joint Statement of Purpose.

The Land Portal is a Foundation registered in the Netherlands in 2014.

The vision of the Portal is to improve land governance to benefit those with the most insecure land rights and the greatest vulnerability to landlessness through information and knowledge sharing.

Calling all land enthusiasts! In collaboration with our colleagues at GODAN Action, we are excited to announce a new call for applications for the Open Data Management Online Course. The content of the course has now expanded to include land, in addition to agriculture and nutrition! This edition of the course has been revised particularly for communities managing and storing data with regards to land. We invite anyone handling data in their studies or work in the areas of land, agriculture and nutrition to apply for the course which will be held from 1-19 October 2018.


Do you want to learn more about how your land data and information can be best exposed and reached by those in need of it? Do you often ask yourself what concrete issues poor land users face when it comes to accessing data and information? Join us to help have these questions answered!


The curriculum consists of four units of Open Data Principles, Making Data Open, Sharing Open Data, and IPR and Licensing.


By the end of the course, participants will be able to:


  • Understand the principles and benefits of open data
  • Understand ethics and responsible use of data
  • Identify the steps to advocate for open data policies
  • Recognize the necessary steps to set up an open data repository
  • Define the frameworks and FAIR data principles
  • Understand the basics of copyright and database rights
  • Apply open licenses to data


The course will last 3 weeks and is offered in English. Participants are expected to spend on average eight hours per week completing lessons and engaging in activities such as discussion forums and webinars.
