On 4 December 2000, the UN General Assembly, taking into account the large and increasing number of migrants in the world, proclaimed 18 December as International Migrants Day.

The 2015 Global Landscapes Forum is the leading platform for bringing together individuals and organizations that have an impact on land use. The event is expected to be the largest meeting on the sidelines of the UNFCCC COP21.

The indigenous peoples who are largely concentrated (70%) in Asia region of more than 200 million continue to experience social injustice and discrimination. Their identities and collective rights continue to be denied by states particularly their rights to their lands, territories and resources, cultural heritage and self-determined development.

The 2015 GLTN Partners’ Meeting happens at a strategic time in the life of the GLTN Network. The implementation of the GLTN Phase 2 project, running from 2012 to 2017, has reached its mid-term, country level engagement is well underway, global negotiations are ongoing for the sustainable Development Goals, and preparation for Habitat III including defining the New Urban Agenda are ongoing.

On October 27, 2015, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, USAID, the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and Landesa will host a panel event to discuss the intersection of women's empowerment, land rights and food security at IFPRI's headquarters at 2033 K St NW, Washington, DC. The panel event is open to the public and will be streamed live online.
