The Rights-based Approach (RBA) allows local communities, or others who are marginalized, excluded or discriminated (the rights holders), to exercise their rights; and for institutions, organizations or other agencies (the duty bearers) to provide support towards equitable and inclusive development programmes that benefit them. RBA interventions can address inequities and disparities evident in these communities. In the context of the management of forested landscapes, RBA emphasizes the rights of local communities for fair benefits, access to resources, secure tenure and gender equity.

The Community Carbon Accounting (CCA) Action Research Project was launched with the intention of elaborating approaches for engaging communities in forest carbon stock monitoring.

The objective of this report is mainly to identify priority issues associated with community forestry in different contexts in Thailand, and based from this, analyze capacities of key community forestry stakeholders and come up with recommendations for RECOFTC's Thailand Country Program.

In order to more effectively promote social forestry across the Southeast Asia region, the ASEAN Social Forestry Network (ASFN) is developing a communications and networking strategy to facilitate cooperation and support exchange between diverse stakeholders. This annual progress report highlights key achievements and lessons learned of the Grassroots Capacity Building for REDD+ in Asia project during 2014. 

In 2019, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) published a framework to provide important insights into the successes and shortcomings of community-based forestry at the country level. A framework to assess the extent and effectiveness of community-based forestry also helps national governments determine and track the extent and effectiveness of the wide array of CBF initiatives.

By assessing community forestry in a participatory way with community forestry user groups, practitioners can better help these groups increase the effectiveness of their community forests and identify areas for improvement.

Community forestry supports local level climate change adaptation by enhancing resilience in multiple ways: supporting livelihoods and income, increasing food security, leveraging social capital and knowledge, reducing disaster risks and regulating microclimates. However, adaptation planning has, by and large, not included community forestry as a viable climate change adaptation tool.

This toolkit is designed to guide the business manager (or whoever is tasked with the daily operations of running the forest business) and other business staff through a process of identifying and assessing possible business risks.

This presentation highlights the key outcomes for Phase I and II and looks ahead towards the objectives and expected outcomes of Phase III of the Norad supported Grassroots Capacity Building for REDD+ in Asia project.

Since 2009, RECOFTC has been implementing a regional project on Grassroots Capacity Building for REDD+, through the support of Norad, with the aim of promoting the effective engagement of diverse grassroots stakeholders in the climate change and REDD+ dialogues in Asia-Pacific region.
