The Gender Equality Initiative (HER+) conducts innovative gender and social science research to develop actionable solutions to enhance climate resilience and the empowerment of women in Africa and Asia. As there is no one-size-fits-all solution to these challenges, HER+ identifies and models diverse scenarios for co-creation of socio-technical innovations. According to Barret et al 2022, co-creation of bundled approaches is essential to enable new technologies and practices to emerge, adapt, and be upscaled within and across diverse contexts.

Within the framework of the CGIAR 2030 Research and Innovation Strategy, CGIAR is
actively engaged in a series of initiatives aimed at realizing a world with sustainable and
resilient food, land, and water systems. These initiatives have the overarching goal of
fostering more diverse, healthy, safe, sufficient, and affordable diets while ensuring
improved livelihoods and greater social equality, all while operating within global and
regional environmental boundaries. One of these significant initiatives is the CGIAR

The objective of this report is to highlight the capacity-building activities conducted by the Community Market for Conservation (COMACO) through the Chitetezo Cooperative Federation (CCF) in collaboration with the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT). Capacity building activities focused on the following trainings: (i) Crop market workshops with stakeholders; (ii) Cashier or literacy trainings; (iii) chiefdom or cooperative Training on Crop markets; (iv) Field day activities; and (iv) Agroforestry trainings.

G20 policymakers should strengthen the enabling environment for innovation in agriculture and food systems to unlock public funds to support researchers in developing their innovations. One way to implement this is through increased public funding for innovative agricultural research and development (R&D) efforts such as the Centre of Excellence in Science, Technology, and Innovation (CoE-STI) of the African Union Development Agency – New Partnership for Africa’s Development (AUDA-NEPAD) and CGIAR Accelerate for Impact Platform (A4IP).

Bird- and bat-mediated biocontrol benefits the productivity of tropicalcommodity crops such as cacao, but the ecological interactions drivingthese ecosystem services remain poorly understood. Whereas birds and batsprey on herbivorous arthropods, they may also prey on arthropodmesopredators such as ants, with poorly understood consequences for pestbiocontrol.

Introduction. In the world, 33% of soils are degraded, and 2.9 million people are affected by land degradation, with problems associated with food security, conflicts over natural resources, and migration with different impacts on men or women. To support sustainable soil management, it is necessary to include women's contributions to soil Sciences; their achievements and academic performance still need to be represented. Women in Science represent 30% worldwide. In Mexico, only 24 % of top academic positions are women.

Climate change has become a significant threat to Western African countries in recent decades, including Senegal. Further, there has been an increasing occurrence of extreme events such as droughts. Droughts, directly and indirectly, have detrimental impacts on human health and often trigger nutritional status in the respective region. Children under the age of five are more vulnerable to Droughts in terms of malnutrition. In Senegal also, drought has unforeseen impacts on health systems and impacts the nutritional dynamics of children.

Evaluation of the hydrological impact of urbanization-induced land use land cover (LULC) changes for medium to large catchments is still an important research topic due to the lack of evidence to conclude about how local changes translate to impacts across scales. This study aims to provide evidence on the effects of LULC change on the streamflow of the Akaki catchment that hosts Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia.

Multistakeholder processes (MSPs) are becoming increasingly important in international development research. MSPs are defined as “purposefully organized interactive processes that bring together stakeholders to participate in dialogue, decision-making and/or implementation regarding actions seeking to address a problem they hold in common or to achieve a goal for their common benefit” (Sarmiento Barletti- et al 2020).

Rainfed agriculture is at the centre of many West African economies and a key livelihood strategy in the region. Highly variable rainfall patterns lead to a situation in which farmers’ investments to increase productivity are very risky and will become more risky with climate change. Process-based cropping system models are a key tool to assess the impact of weather variability and climate change, as well as the effect of crop management options on crop yields, soil fertility and farming system resilience and widely used by the West African scientific community.

Support to agriculture producers is provided in different forms, including border measures, domestic subsidies, and income transfers from taxpayers to producers. International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) maintains a harmonized database on nominal rate of protection (NRP) for the AgIncentives Consortium (www.ag-incentives.org) constituted by OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development), FAO, IFPRI, the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), and the World Bank.

The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), The Amhara Regional Agricultural Research Institute (ARARI), the Accelerating the Impact of CGIAR Climate Research in Africa (AICCRA), and the Amhara Livestock and Fisheries Resource Development Office organized a workshop that took place on May 29, 2023, in Bahir Dar Ethiopia.
