This report was developed based on a literature review of existing laws and policies, and reports on forestry stakeholders, forestry-based mitigation options and their linkages to food systems in the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. The report shows that despite forests playing a vital role in providing food security, this is often overlooked by policymakers and current national and provincial policies. Only a limited number of studies have explored this linkage across the 13 provinces of the Mekong Delta region.

Alliance successfully integrated the concepts of sustainable healthy diets and sustainable food systems into the Q&A guidelines for the Strategy for Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development, Period 2021–2030 and Vision to 2050 led by IPSARD-MARD.

The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is
extremely vulnerable to climate change and is also the
most gender unequal region in the world. According to the
Global Gender Gap report, the gender gap is highest in the
MENA region (60.9 percent progress toward parity), and “at
the current relative pace, it would take an estimated 142.4
years to close” (World Economic Forum, 2021: 26).

The current structure of the global food system is increasingly recognized as unsustainable. In addition to the environmental impacts of agricultural production, unequal patterns of food access and availability are contributing to non-communicable diseases in middle- and high-income countries and inadequate caloric intake and dietary diversity among the world’s poorest. While the need to transform food systems is widely accepted, the policy pathways for achieving such a vision often are highly contested, and the enabling conditions for implementation are frequently absent.

The literature on the food and nutrition security of tribal and/or indigenous communities in the mountain and hill regions remains opaque, despite the prevalence of malnutrition and food insecurity. Empirical evidence on the gendered dimensions of challenges in the agri-food system in the indigenous communities in the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) region is even more limited. In this session, we focus on the need for gender-transformative approaches (GTA) in the HKH region, which extends over eight countries from Afghanistan in the west to Myanmar in the east. Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA) is a USD 60 million three-year project, funded by the World Bank and led by CIAT, with participating partners from seven countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Senegal and Zambia. This report provides an overview of two Satisfaction Surveys that were disseminated to partners to gather their feedback on three of the intermediate Project Indicators (IPI), as laid out in the Project Implementation Arrangements.

The 2023 Africa Agriculture Trade Monitor, a flagship publication of AKADEMIYA2063 and the International Food Policy Research Institute, provides an overview of trade in agriculture in Africa, including analysis of short- and long-term trends and drivers behind Africa’s global trade, intra-African trade, and trade within Africa’s regional economic communities.

Farmers in Ghana have suffered from the effects of climate change. These negative effects are more severe among women and youth farming groups. Research in Ghana has been focused on developing climate-smart agriculture (CSA) practices to mitigate the negative effect of climate change on farmers productivity. The study uses baseline data from the Accelerating impacts of CGIAR climate research for Africa (AICCRA) project to analyze social inequalities and gender dimensions in the application of CSA practices among maize, cowpea, yam, sweet potato and tomato farmers in Ghana.

Agriculture is one of the important sectors of the Southeast Asian (SEA) region, contributing 11.4% to the regional GDP. Diverse conditions in climate, vegetation, physiography, geology, and lithology have resulted in 19 complex soil geographical areas, creating 11 farming systems, of which four are considered significant. Soil health has been recognized as key to a successful and productive cropping system, giving rise to sustainable agriculture.
