Land Rights Now: Global Mobilisation around World Food Day

As 2018 came to a close, Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary named “justice” their Word of the Year. It was a top search throughout 2018, and for good reason. Justice remains out of reach for billions of people worldwide.
We have a chance to change that in 2019. That’s why we’re naming this the Year of Justice.
Positive futuremaking starts when space, time and land with its inhabitants are brought and thought together, when diverse forms of life on, with and off the land can be accepted as valid elements of futuremaking; when unnecessary distinctions among livelihoods and forms of existence are overcome; and when all members of society are trusted to cooperate to build states on peaceful terms.
Securing land rights is critical for realizing sustainable food systems that provide food security and overcome poverty. Security of property rights is central to preserving livelihoods, maintaining social stability, and increasing incentives for investment and for sustainable, productive land use.
The 49th Session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) will be held virtually from 11 to 14 October 2021.
