The Elejigbo family of Lamgbasa community in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos has accused the state government of demolishing their property at Silverpoint Estate for the purpose of acquiring the land and selling to wealthy individuals.


The family also accused the Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led government of Lagos of acting outside of legal provisions by demolishing their properties.


‘Stop grabbing forest land’

The Siem Reap provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries called on citizens to stop stealing forest land belonging to the state. It said village, commune and district authorities should cooperate to protect forest land in the province.

Department director Tea Kimsoth told The Post on Monday that forest land managed by the Forestry Administration and residents in Siem Reap spanned over 30,000ha. The forests have an abundance of high-grade Cambodian timber.

Anti-Corruption Unit probes oknha over land case in Battambang

Oknha Sorng Thorn, the owner of 5,000ha which covers a fourth of Koas Krala district in Battambang province, was taken in for questioning by the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) on Saturday in regards to corruption allegations.

In a move that civil society organisation Adhoc does not believe to be related to Thorn’s case, Prime Minister Hun Sen issued a sub-decree ending Mao Sochan’s tenure as Koas Krala district governor.

Intervention sought in land dispute

Some 50 people representing more than 100 families locked in a land dispute in Kampong Thom province’s Kraya commune, in Santuk district, travelled to Phnom Penh to submit a petition at the National Assembly, the Prime Minister’s Cabinet and the Ministry of Interior on Monday and Tuesday.

The petitioners, who are also requesting intervention in the land dispute to acquire authorised land titles, accused provincial authorities of an attempt to jail them, but provincial governor Sok Lou denied this.

Kampong Thom short of 10,000 workers because of mass migration

Kampong Thom provincial governor Sok Lou said on Wednesday that his province is facing a shortage of more than 10,000 workers due to mass migrations.

Lou noted that the shortage creates a problem because 27 companies are currently investing in 110,000ha of economic land concessions for agriculture.

 

Speaking at a press conference organised by the Royal Government Spokesperson Unit on provincial progress and work plans, he said Kampong Thom has over 290,000ha for rice cultivation.

Lagos to create more Islands to address land scarcity

The state government says the projects will be financed through Public-Private Partnership.

The Lagos State Government says it will continue to create more man-made islands at its waterfront across the state, to further increase land availability for Housing and Infrastructural Development.

The Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Mr Ahmed Abdullahi, said this in Ikeja on Wednesday at the Year 2020 Ministerial Press Briefing to mark the first year of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
