The system of recognition of polygon objects with noise training images

Journal Articles & Books
June, 2016
Belarus

With the development of remote sensing systems in the Republic of Belarus there was a question about processing large amounts of information. Existing methods of pattern recognition are widely used in the field of research into earth resources by methods of automation of aerospace observation, as well as in other areas related to the processing of large volumes of complex video data of different nature. However, domestic developments of pattern recognition theory are largely practically absent at present.

Sustainable intensification in agriculture as a factor of achieving food security

Journal Articles & Books
December, 2016

Ending hunger, achieving food security and promoting sustainable development are at the top of the list of United Nations sustainable global development priorities after 2015. In addition to many positive effects, efforts of mankind regarding the reduction of rural poverty realized through the Green Revolution have had many negative effects, primarily related to natural resources. Irreversible devastation of land, air and water quality deterioration and jeopardizing biodiversity have been recognized as key elements of unsustainability of existing agricultural development concept.

The Social Consequences of Underestimation of Land Management Importance in Slovak Regional Policy

Journal Articles & Books
December, 2012
Slovakia

This work analyzes the importance of land management in Slovakia in a typically rural mountain country. It points out the importance of social function implemented in a region, especially during the economic crisis. The multiple analysis of variance (ANOVA) test confirmed the relationships between the share of agricultural and forest land and the number of people in material need who depend on state aid.

Land Allocation Effects of the Global Ethanol Surge: Predictions from the International FAPRI Model

We quantify the emergence of biofuel markets and its impact on U.S. and world agriculture for the coming decade using the multi-market, multi-commodity international FAPRI (Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute) model. The model incorporates the trade-offs between biofuel, feed, and food production and consumption and international feedback effects of the emergence through world commodity prices and trade.

Profitability of land factor on the conditions of sustainable development - frames of new land rent theory

Conference Papers & Reports
December, 2013
Poland
Latvia

Other papers concerning agricultural economics frequently emphasise a problem of low resource productivity. However, the measuring methods are controversial, because they do not consider a progressive depreciation of fixed assets in agriculture and the new utilities of land on the conditions of sustainable development. These preconditions entitle to formulate a hypothesis that a productivity of capital in agriculture in Poland is increasing because of intrinsic values of agricultural areas. This implies a need of rethinking the neoclassical land rent theories.

The programme seminar on integration of remote sensing and GIS for applications in South East Asia

Journal Articles & Books

South-Eastern Asia

This paper describes a number of pieces of work that we have carried out in connection with surface temperature, making use if satellite thermal infrared data. The study involves estimating land surface temperature, sea surface temperature, land sub-surface temperature and forest fires. A plane-parallel radiative transfer model was used to derive a multi-channel method for retriving land surface temperature from space. The perfomance and reliability of this algorithm has been tested for a dry atmosphere whose value of surface temperature lies between 255 and 280 K.

An empirical analysis of the relationship between land size, ownership, and soybean productivity - new evidence from the semi-arid tropical region in Madhya Pradesh, India

ICRISAT's intervention in the project 'improving management of natural resources for sustainable rainfed agriculture' funded by the Asian Development Bank aims to increase the productivity and sustainability of the medium and high-water holding capacity soils in the intermediate rainfall ecoregion in India, Vietnam, and Thailand. The study examines the productivity of soybean during the 1999 rainy season in one of the benchmark sites in Lateri watershed, Vidisha district, Madhya Pradesh, India.

The changes of forest-growing capabilities of soils on lands after fires in conditions of Northern Steppe Ukrainе

Conference Papers & Reports
December, 2011
Ukraine

Post-fire changes of physical-chemical and microbiological properties of sandy soils are studied. Such changes are of apparent anthropogenic nature and are unfavorable for establishment of artificial forest stands. The optimal terms for forest planting on post-fire lands are proposed of Northern SteppeUkraine.
