Ethnic Violence in Morogoro Region in Tanzania

In early 2015, Maasai and Datoga citizens living in the Morogoro region of Tanzania were victims of deadly, ethnic violence. According to reports from local media, the assaults were instigated by public figures interested in acquiring land, and state authorities have not intervened to protect Maasai citizens. Police protection has instead been given to others who are illegally cultivating officially registered Maasai land.

This study aims to assess the applicability of the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forest in the Context of National Food Security (VGGT) in urban and peri-urban areas. The study also aims to facilitate decision-making on the next steps needed to ensure the application of the VGGT in urban and peri-urban areas, including informing the implementers on how they can anchor the VGGT in their activities, i.e. to apply or use the VGGT in their work in urban and peri-urban areas.

Los antecedentes que se exponen señalan que este fue un proceso masivo que se materializó en pocas décadas que terminó con la mayoría de las propiedades inscritas.

Comitê de Segurança Alimentar Mundial (CSA), em maio de 2012, são um marco histórico. Elas representam o principal documento internacional normativo sobre questões fundiárias consensuado por todos os países membros das Nações Unidas.
 
É, também, o primeiro documento aprovado após profundo processo de reforma do CSA, concluído em 2009.
