This paper aims to provide keys that will help us understand contemporary land dynamics in these four countries. In order to do so it highlights their similarities and differences, both in the long history that shaped today’s local land situations and in more recent reforms implemented in the context of greater economic openness.
The first part of the paper sets the cultural and historical context, with an overview of the diverse ways that the political authorities and different groups within the region have related to land.

The major role tropical forests play in
biodiversity and climate change has led the world to search
for effective ways to slow down deforestation. Community
forest management (CFM) is an example of the broader concept
of community-based natural resources management (CBNRM). As
part of the decentralization policy in many countries,
mainly in Africa and Asia, CFM was expected to promote: (i)
a more effective stewardship of the resources by involving

Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) have the potential to benefit both people and wildlife in Tanzania. But are Tanzanian communities earning enough from WMAs to want to protect the wildlife that live on their land? This policy brief addresses this question by examining two WMAs in the Tarangire ecosystem and looking at their performance and revenue streams. This reveals that while communities are earning some income, the WMAs do not yet have enough funds to cover management and wildlife protection costs.

We aim at increasing the impact of poverty-reduction strategies on poor smallholder farmers through investments in water, by recognizing the diversity and complexity of their conditions and tailoring interventions accordingly.

Tokelau joined the Organization as an Associate Member in 2011. Over the past few years, FAO assistance to the Pacific Island Territory has contributed to the sustainable management of natural resources and food security. Interventions have focused on inshore fisheries as well as coastal and village land-use planning and efforts to increase household food production.

Первоначально помощь ФАО заключалась в реализации краткосрочных чрезвычайных мер реагирования в связи со вспышками саранчи, а также в оказании поддержки стране в период ее перехода к мирной жизни после гражданской войны. Впоследствии акцент сотрудничества сместился на проведение мероприятий по восстановлению и развитию в целях создания устойчивого сельскохозяйственного сектора и обеспечения продовольственной и пищевой безопасности.

Они подробно излагают теоретическую основу технологий сохранения почв, а также методы ее возделывания. Это первое наглядное средство на русском языке для студентов сельскохозяйственных университетов, фермеров, агрономов и специалистов в области почвозащитного и ресурсосберегающего земледелия, которое, надеемся, поможет расширить область применения усовершенствованных технологий на фермерских полях.

Cooperation between Tajikistan and FAO has been ongoing since the country joined the Organization in 1995. FAO assistance was initially provided in the form of short-term emergency interventions to respond to a locust outbreak and also to help the country in its transition to stability after a spell of civil war. More recently, cooperation has shifted to a focus on rehabilitation and development interventions to build a sustainable agriculture sector and food and nutrition security.
