This study investigates the attendant effect of unregulated land acquisition by governments and investment partners, forceful dispossession and displacement of individuals and communities in the era of globalization and wealth creation by increasingly capitalist regimes in southern Nigeria. The investigation of the trajectory of wealth and conflict resulting from this phenomenon is the key focus of this research.

The Heads of States and Government of the African Union in collaboration with UNECA and AfDB, to carry out studies on the establishment of an appropriate institutional framework that can support Member States in their efforts towards reviewing, developing and implementing land policies including mechanisms for progress tracking and reporting, as well as for the establishment of an African Fund for Land Policy.

The paper is part of a joint presentation with Marius Grønning at the 5th International and Interdisciplinary Symposium of the European Academy of Land Use and Development (EALD) held in Oslo 3-5 September 2015.

El presente Decreto Legislativo modifica la Ley que crea el Sistema Nacional Integrado de Información Catastral Predial, en relación a las entidades que lo conforman y a los integrantes del Consejo Nacional de Catastro. Además, crea el Índice de las Estaciones de Rastreo Permanente (ERP), de propiedad de las entidades públicas y privadas, a fin de densificar y consolidar el Sistema Geodésico Oficial.

This Regional Law transfers to local government plenary powers for governance of land plots with undelimited public ownership pertaining to categories of urban land and inhabited rural areas. The aforesaid plenary powers shall be transferred to local government for the period of five years.

La presente Ley modifica la que crea el Sistema Nacional Integrado de Información Catastral Predial, en relación a las entidades que lo conforman y a los integrantes del Consejo Nacional de Catastro.

El presente Decreto Supremo aprueba el Reglamento de Acondicionamiento Territorial y Desarrollo Urbano Sostenible, que tiene por objeto regular los procedimientos técnicos que siguen los Gobiernos Locales a nivel nacional, en el ejercicio de sus competencias en materia de planeamiento y gestión del suelo, de acondicionamiento territorial y de desarrollo urbano de sus circunscripciones, a fin de garantizar: 1) La ocupación racional y sostenible de los centros poblados urbanos y rurales; 2) La armonía entre el ejercicio del derecho de propiedad predial y el interés público; 3) La reducción de

This Regional Law shall have as its purpose ensuring the right of citizens to favorable environment, including landscape and shade gardening, planting of recreational urban forests, thus ensuring favorable conditions for vital activity of citizens, and delimits plenary powers between city state bodies, local government and municipal units in the sphere of improvement of natural environment. Objects of improvement of natural environment shall be: (a) urban land and rural land; and (b) public and municipal land without application of servitude.

Article 2 shall be amended to add the following wording: “Municipal land control of urban land areas shall be performed by local government of urban centers”.
