Este año el informe presta especial atención al impacto del agronegocio en cuatro dimensiones: la alimentación, la salud, el cambio climático y la criminalización. Respecto al primero, se analiza en uno de los artículos el continuo aumen- to de la importación de productos frutihortícolas, propios de la agricultura campesina, ante la inexistencia de una política siquiera de seguridad alimentaria. Los datos del Censo 2022, evidencian que las políticas agrícolas y económicas del país provocan el declive de la producción y economía campesinas.

Obstacles to the Development of Integrated Land-Use Planning in Developing Countries: The Case of Paraguay

Land-use planning identifies the best land-use options by considering environmental, economic, and social factors. Different theoretical land-use plan models can be found in the literature; however, few studies focus on its practical application and particular challenges in different contexts, especially in the Global South. We use expert surveys to explore the feasibility and relevance of integrated land-use planning and data acquisition in developing countries using Paraguay as an example.

  • Les émissions provenant de l’augmentation des échanges bilatéraux de 10 produits agricoles clés devraient augmenter de 15 %, si l'accord de libre-échange entre l'Association européenne de libre-échange (AELE) et le Mercosur est mis en œuvre. 
  • Les exportations de viande de bœuf, de maïs et soja du Mercosur constitueront la principale source des nouvelles émissions (47 %), suivie par les exportations de fromage depuis l'AELE (15 %).

The stabling of livestock farming implies changes in both local ecosystems (regeneration of forest stands via reduced grazing) and those located thousands of kilometers away (deforestation to produce grain for feeding livestock). Despite their importance, these externalities are poorly known. Here we evaluated how the intensification and confinement of livestock in Spain has affected forest surface changes there and in South America, the largest provider of soybeans for animal feed to the European Union.

Fin juin 2019, la Commission européenne a annoncé avoir conclu un accord de principe en vue d’un accord de libre-échange avec le Mercosur. Ce bloc commercial sud-américain est composé de l’Argentine, du Brésil, du Paraguay et de l’Uruguay. L’accord envisagé est l’un des volets d’un accord d’association plus global. Il est fortement décrié par la société civile et certains gouvernements. La présente publication est proposée par MISEREOR, Greenpeace, la CIDSE, le CCFD-Terre Solidaire et Entraide & Fraternité.

The extensive arable land and great biodiversity present in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) have the potential to ensure sustenance and a good quality of life for its more than 600 million inhabitants. LAC has experienced important changes in land use. When the Europeans arrived in the 15th century, the forest cover of LAC accounted for approximately 75 per cent of the territory.
