Este año el informe presta especial atención al impacto del agronegocio en cuatro dimensiones: la alimentación, la salud, el cambio climático y la criminalización. Respecto al primero, se analiza en uno de los artículos el continuo aumen- to de la importación de productos frutihortícolas, propios de la agricultura campesina, ante la inexistencia de una política siquiera de seguridad alimentaria. Los datos del Censo 2022, evidencian que las políticas agrícolas y económicas del país provocan el declive de la producción y economía campesinas.

Land-use planning identifies the best land-use options by considering environmental, economic, and social factors. Different theoretical land-use plan models can be found in the literature; however, few studies focus on its practical application and particular challenges in different contexts, especially in the Global South. We use expert surveys to explore the feasibility and relevance of integrated land-use planning and data acquisition in developing countries using Paraguay as an example.

The stabling of livestock farming implies changes in both local ecosystems (regeneration of forest stands via reduced grazing) and those located thousands of kilometers away (deforestation to produce grain for feeding livestock). Despite their importance, these externalities are poorly known. Here we evaluated how the intensification and confinement of livestock in Spain has affected forest surface changes there and in South America, the largest provider of soybeans for animal feed to the European Union.

Fin juin 2019, la Commission européenne a annoncé avoir conclu un accord de principe en vue d’un accord de libre-échange avec le Mercosur. Ce bloc commercial sud-américain est composé de l’Argentine, du Brésil, du Paraguay et de l’Uruguay. L’accord envisagé est l’un des volets d’un accord d’association plus global. Para responder estas preguntas se tuvo que indagar también en el sector internacional, porque es un sector globalizado y para entender lo local es necesario tener una perspectiva mundial. Se intentará presentar en estas páginas todos los hallazgos, así como las problemáticas pendientes para ubicar esta actividad en nuestra realidad socioeconómica y territorial.

The extensive arable land and great biodiversity present in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) have the potential to ensure sustenance and a good quality of life for its more than 600 million inhabitants. LAC has experienced important changes in land use. When the Europeans arrived in the 15th century, the forest cover of LAC accounted for approximately 75 per cent of the territory.

This brochure provides an overview of the Global Programme Responsible Land Policy (GPRLP) implemented by the German Development Cooperation Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). It points out the relevance of land rights for reducing hunger and conflicts as well as the potential for achieving environmental, social and economic development.

Agriculture in Eastern Europe and Central Asia is diverse, and has great potential to revitalize the economy of the countries in the region via improved productivity (efficiency) and higher total yield for food, fodder and fibre crops. Conservation agriculture can rise to the major challenge of making sustainable intensification of production systems a reality.
