The FAO Programme for the World Census of Agriculture 2000 (WCA2000) is the eighth decennial programme to provide the definitions, concepts, standards and guidelines for national agricultural censuses around the world. The Census Programme was devised to foster the harmonization of national census practices for the national agricultural censuses undertaken in the decade 1996-2005. The harmonisation of national census practices is necessary in order to generate a database of internationally comparable figures, such as the total number of farms by size, the number of livestock by type, land use by crops and agricultural inputs.
