This Order consolidates with amendments the permitted development provisions of the Town and Country Planning (General Amendment) (Scotland) Order 1981 and subsequent amending instruments. The main purpose of this Order is to permit certain classes of development without express planning permission being granted under the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1972. Schedule 1 to the Order sets out these classes of development in detail, subject to articles 3 to 7. One change of substance made by the Order concerns provisions permitting agricultural buildings and operations (Schedule 1, Part 6) which have been revised to: (i) apply only to buildings below 465 square metres in area or 12 metres in height; (ii) introduce a "cordon sanitaire" around intensive livestock buildings; (iii) require developers to give planning authorities prior notification of their proposals.
