This Notice of the Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, made under section 21 of the Environment Conservation Act, 1989, identifies in Schedule 1 activities that may have a detrimental effect on the environment in respect of areas included in Schedule 2, which form the Pennington Sensitive Coastal Area and Umtamvuna Sensitive Coastal Area. Those activities include: disturbance of vegetation, dredging, dune stabilisation and earthworks. The Notice shall not apply to activities of a like nature carried out in the normal pursuit of agriculture or gardening or to activities approved under the Sea Shore Act, the Minerals Act, the Forest Act, the Nature Conservation Act or the Natal Nature Conservation Ordinance.
