    In theory, South Africa has strong laws to protect the property ownership and inheritance rights of all women. However, a 2018 study conducted by Bongi Owusu for her master’s dissertation in social science at the University of KwaZulu-Natal found that these laws are often not implemented in rural Zulu-speaking communities. She explains how this prejudices widows in particular.

    ACTSA: Action for Southern Africa is the successor organisation to the Anti-Apartheid Movement in the United Kingdom. Established in 1994, ACTSA has since been campaigning with the people of southern Africa as they strive to build a better future; working for peace, democracy and development across the region. It is a coalition member of the Stop AIDS Campaign, the Trade Justice Movement, and Stop Climate Chaos.

    The Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) invests in applied research to improve agricultural productivity and sustainability and food system resilience in developing countries.

    ACIAR is an Australian Government statutory authority within the Foreign Affairs portfolio and is Australia’s specialist international agricultural research for development (R4D) agency.

    FinMark Trust is an independent non-profit trust whose purpose is ‘Making financial markets work for the poor, by promoting financial inclusion and regional financial integration’. We pursue our core objective of making financial markets work for the poor through two principle programmes. The first is through the creation and analysis of financial services consumer data to provide in depth insights on both served and unserved consumers across the developing world.

    We have over 95 years of experience in empowering communities to overcome poverty.  Led by our founder Dr. Y.C.     NiZa merged with ActionAid Netherlands in 2012 and no longer exists as an independent organization.

    Practical Action is an international non-governmental organisation (NGO) that uses technology to challenge poverty in developing countries.
