FAO release five new country profiles in the Gender and Land Rights Database

The Gender and Land Rights Database was launched by FAO in 2010 to highlight the major social, economic, political and cultural factors that influence the enforcement of women's land rights across countries, in all regions. Produced in consultation with national statistics authorities, universities, civil society organizations and other sources worldwide, the Database provides a practical tool for policy and decision-makers, development practitioners, programme designers, researchers and activists who work directly on land-related issues.

RIO DE JANEIRO (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Countries will be unable to meet their climate change pledges unless they secure land rights for people living in the world's tropical forests, indigenous leaders told an international conference of regional governors meeting in Mexico.

Speakers at a token hunger strike yesterday demanded a separate land commission for indigenous people living in plain lands.


The hunger strike was organised by Bangladesh Adivasi Forum, Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Citizens’ Committee and CHT Headman Network at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital.
