Transparency International calls for corruption-free land governance
At a recent meeting in Panama City representatives from more than 110 Transparency International chapters and members unanimously adopted a resolution calling for corruption-free land governance worldwide.
Around the world, one in five people report that they have paid a bribe for land services; but in Africa, every second client of land administration services is affected.
Foreign investors control 40% of Romania’s arable land

Foreign investors have come up to control as much as 40% of Romania’s arable land, according to a recent study made by the Transnational Institute for the European Parliament.
The study, which focuses on how much land in Europe has been bought by non-EU investors, shows that Romania is among the countries that have sold some of the largest surfaces to foreigners.
Update from the National Land Rights Movement - Nepal
Starting from Open theatre, Kathmandu the rally of 1000 women traveled through Ratnapark, Bhotebahal, Kuleshwor and reached at CPN (UML) office, Balkhu Kathmandu. The national land rights movement which started from 15th March, 2011 was followed upon with the full fervor all the participants on the 3rd day of movement also. All of them were tirelessly reciting the slogans. Addressing the movement, Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal, and other political party representative including CPN-UML Vice Chairman Bamdev Gautam, UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal responded to the mass.

Research shows that indigenous peoples and communities manage their forests and other ecosystems well if they have secure rights over their land. Because healthy ecosystems deliver a whole suite of services — from timber to nonforest products to carbon mitigation — it’s in the broadest public interest to know which land is held and used by communities, where tenure security exists for these people, and where it needs to be stronger.

Déjà en proie à de multiples défis, le gouvernement ivoirien est également confronté au trafic du bois. Cette filière frauduleuse ne cesse pas de se développer. Ainsi, depuis le début de l’année, les saisies ne font que s’enchaîner. Le week-end dernier, le Ministre en charge des Eaux et des Forêts, M. Clément Bouéka Nabo, a dû effectuer un déplacement vers le port de San Pedro, où 30 conteneurs de 40 pieds de bois de vèine venaient d’être saisis, alors que la cargaison s’apprêtait à prendre le large.
