As we embark on the holiday season, I want to thank you and the rest of our Land Portal community for your ongoing support. It is only through your engagement and commitment that we can continue to provide outstanding programming, information, and data about land governance around the world. In 2022, the Land Portal was one of the most visited websites for land information with ~74K monthly visits. With origins as a start-up project aggregating land articles, we are doubly gratified that the Portal has become a valuable online destination with rich, original content.

NASA’s Applied Remote Sensing Training Program (ARSET) has opened a new open, online introductory webinar series: Connecting Citizen Science with Remote Sensing. This 3-part training, delivered in English and Spanish, will provide attendees an overview of citizen science efforts that use Earth Observations combined with ground-based information in the fields of climate change, sustainable development, ecosystem monitoring and characterization, drought, and land cover or land-use change, and will highlight case-study examples of successful citizen science projects, with some examples from NASA supported projects and activities.

On 15 December 2022 the LAND-at-scale Knowledge Management team hosted a webinar Land tenure security revisited: Do we know what we need to know? that presented the preliminary findings of a study on tenure security authored by Guus van Westen, and Jaap Zevenbergen. The presentation of the study was followed by breakout sessions on tenure security and its relationship to women's land rights, the role of the state, land conflicts, and economic development facilitated by land experts and panelists who reported back to the plenary on the discussions with their respective reflections on the findings of the study.
