The FAO Legal Office provides in-house counsel in accordance with the Basic Texts of the Organization, gives legal advisory services to FAO members, assists in the formulation of treaties on food and agriculture, for which the Director-General acts as Depositary, publishes legal studies and maintains a database (FAOLEX) of national legislation and international agreements concerning food and agriculture (including fisheries, forestry and water).

This Regional Law regulates some issues of land tenure and land protection and, in particular, transfer of land from one category to another, land survey practices, cadastre registration of land and mapping of boundaries of land parcels transferred from one category to another. It also regulates establishment of public servitude by the regional administration and local government with the consideration of public hearing outcome and classification of land areas as protected areas.

Law No. 17.425 creating the State Council for Indigenous People and Traditional Communities (CPICT/PR).

This Law, consisting of 32 articles, creates the State Council for Indigenous People and Traditional Communities (CPICT/PR) within the State of Paraná. It establishes competencies, duties and responsibilities of the above mentioned Council, entitled to: enable the participation in discussions, proposals, design and assistance in implementation and control of public policies related to the sustainable development of indigenous people and traditional communities who are self-defining or self-attribute themselves, according to Convention No. 169 of the International Organization of Labour.

Spatial Information Infrastrucutre Act.

The purpose of the present Act is to establish a national spatial data infrastructure. The Act provides the legal framework for: 1) access to spatial data, spatial data and metadata services of spatial data holding agencies and 2) the use of such data and services, especially for measures which may have some impact on the environment.

Article 4 shall be amended to add the following wording: “1.1) provide for survey and cadastre registration of land parcels expropriated by court decision and public sale thereof in accordance with the modalities established by civil legislation”.
