The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, commonly known as the CSIR, is a world-class African research and development organisation established through an Act of Parliament in 1945 and the organisation’s executive authority is the Minister of Science and Technology of South Africa. The CSIR undertakes directed, multidisciplinary research and technological innovation that contribute to the improved quality of life of South Africans.
Urban Knowledge Exchange (uKESA)
The Knowledge Exchange is a response to an identified need for increased information exchange in the Southern African region. It has been developed as a broad collaboration of partners, with the CSIR acting as the custodian.
In this webinar we explore and discuss two multi-partner platforms that process large datasets and provide tools to support decision making in complex, dynamic urban and regional environments. What impacts are they trying to achieve? How do they enhance efforts to engage with the information so produced? Project leaders from HSRC and CSIR present and discuss their platforms, and we hear the views of a respondent on these endeavours.
The panel members are:
- Amy Pieterse: Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) speaking on the Green Book; and
- Justin Visagie: Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) speaking on the Spatial Economic Activity Data: South Africa (SEAD-SA)
We look forward to having you attend the event.
