Land is an imperative and crucial factor in the social, cultural and economic identity of the people in Sri Lanka due to the importance it has been given throughout our history. Moreover, the rights and interests over land are unequivocally and legally secured without any discrimination on the basis of gender, caste, religious or ethnic lines for its peaceful enjoyment and for the economic development of the people and the country.

The articles in this Bulletin are written by the following organizations and individuals: National Coordinator for the Defense of the Mangrove Ecosystem (C-CONDEM), Ecuador; Yayasan Pusaka Bentala Rakya (Bentala Raya Heritage Foundation), Indonesia; Venezuelan Observatory of Political Ecology and members of the WRM international secretariat in close collaboration with several allies who are part of grassroots groups in different countries.

Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation (BTFEC) in collaboration with National Soil Service Centre (NSSC), and Gross National Happiness Commission (GNHC) has undertaken the Evaluation and Learning (E&L) activity with financial support from Climate Investment Funds (CIF) for the project ‘Evaluation of Sustainable Land Management (SLM) and innovative financing to enhance climate resilience and food security in Bhutan’.

Given its seemingly beneficial aspects to socioeconomic development and environmental well-being, the legislative reforms initiated under the Land Act of Bhutan, 2007 have raised so much consternation as well as hope in the minds of the Bhutanese people who either depend on livestock husbandry or leasing out such rights to others with livestock and compensated with payment in cash or kind in the form of livestock products.

Property rights and management regimes for high-elevation rangelands in Bhutan have evolved over centuries in response to environmental, cultural, and political imperatives. The 2007 Land Act of Bhutan aims to redress historical inequities in property rights by redistributing grazing leases to local livestock owners in a process known as rangeland nationalization.

The Bhutan Forest Note articulates opportunities for supporting Bhutan's sustainable development aspirations, including its constitutional commitment to maintain at least 60 percent of the country's land area under forest cover and to better respond or prepare for vulnerabilities such as climate change and natural disasters. The note presents a forward-looking business case for Bhutan to support an increase in forest utilization without jeopardizing the integrity of forest and non-forest ecosystems.

El siguiente documento detalla el proceso institucional llevado adelante en la República Argentina para establecer las metas voluntarias de Neutralidad de la Degradación de la Tierra a escala nacional. La Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas aprobó, en septiembre de 2015, la “Agenda 2030 para el Desarrollo Sostenible” que define 17 objetivos de desarrollo sostenible (ODS) y una serie de metas entre las que se destaca la meta 15.3 que involucra la neutralidad de la degradación de la tierra (NDT).

Esta publicación recoge reflexiones sobre los componentes económicos del sector agrícola en Chile, mecanismos para mejorar la transparencia de los mercados, el componente laboral, la actividad forestal, la pequeña agricultura, la agroenergía, el sector forestal y la dimensión territorial y ambiental en que se enmarca este sector productivo. Se incluye aquí también una síntesis de variables relevantes recogidas en cada región del país, en las que se identifican brechas prioritarias que se deben enfrentar en cada una de ellas.
