Le Maroc qui dispose de ressources appréciables en sols, eau et forêts a décidé, dès son indépendance en 1956, de faire de l’agriculture, l’un des piliers de son développement. Il a également su mettre à profit sa double façade atlantique et méditerranéenne, qui recèle un important potentiel halieutique, pour assurer au secteur des pêches un élan de développement durable. De tels choix ont créé une dynamique de croissance économique régulière qui a permis d’assurer la sécurité alimentaire du peuple marocain.

En esta publicación se examinan algunas políticas de ordenación pesquera en el Mediterráneo a la luz de los nuevos objetivos de la sostenibilidad y el buen gobierno. Se hace hincapié en la descentralización de la acción pública y la reforma de los mecanismos institucionales. En el primer capítulo, se evalúan las bases históricas y sociales del dualismo entre las pesquerías en pequeña escala y las industriales.

Smallholder farmers in Kenya grow most of the country's food, vegetables and fruit. These farmers face formidable challenges in increasing production, preserving natural resources and addressing the impact of climate change in food production systems. Meeting these challenges is vital to sustained livelihoods and reduction of poverty, especially in the fragile dryland and semi-arid areas, where the impact of climate change is expected to be severe in Eastern Africa and Kenya.

This country report covers the overall situation of forest resources in Guinea-Bissau. The report includes an introduction covering the main aspects of forest resources in the country. The first part gives some general information about what forest resources are available giving some details about the types of vegetation, biodiversity, etc. The second part of the report covers the vegetation coverage according to the national classification.

Tan sólo nueve meses atrás, la FAO, IPCC, IUFRO y CIFOR organizaron conjuntamente la primera Reunión de expertos sobre la armonización de definiciones relacionadas con el bosque para el uso por varios actores sociales. El objetivo del proceso iniciado en ese entonces era llegar a una armonización de las definiciones relacionadas con el bosque no sólo desde el punto de vista del cambio climático y de la evaluación de los recursos forestales, sino también con respecto a la conservación de la biodiversidad y la ordenación de bosques.

The Regional Workshop convened by M S Swaminathan Research Foundation in collaboration with the Bay of Bengal Programme of FAO (BOBP) is designed to address these issues and to develop an action plan for saving the remaining coral reefs in the SAARC region. Since its establishment in 1989, M S S R F has given priority attention to the conservation and sustainable use of Coastal Mangrove ecosystems. In many areas, Mangroves, sea grass meadows and coral reefs constitute an integrated ecosystem. The Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve represents one such integrated ecosystem.
