The Gender and Social Inclusion (GSI) unit of the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) is dedicated to the advancement of gender-responsive climate policies. This document is a guide to best practices for developing indicators to track progress toward CCAFS gender-related policy sub-intermediate development outcomes (sub-IDOs) and gender activities at project and national levels.

The Agroecology Initiative (AEI) aims to contribute to achieving Agroecological Transitions (AET) through developing and scaling a range of innovations (technical, social, economic, and political) in 8 countries across three continents. It proposes to do so by using a participatory action-research approach involving the key stakeholders of the Agroecological Living Landscapes (ALLs), multi-stakeholder territorial spaces in each country on which the Initiative targets its transformation and innovation efforts.

Globally, there has been an explosion of data generation in agriculture. With such a deluge of data available, it has become essential to create solutions that organize, analyze, and visualize it to gain actionable insights, which can guide farmers, scientists, or policy makers to take better decisions that lead to transformative actions for agriculture.

This issue features studies on the prevalence and impact of anaemia in adolescents, an ecological analysis of child undernutrition and overweight, micronutrient supplementation and linear growth, diets, diet quality, and dietary diversity. growth.

The Platform completed its fourth year as a CGIAR global digital practice, demonstrating that open data standards, sharing, and analytic infrastructure; partnerships and communities of practice; and applied innovation strategy reinforce each other to accelerate inclusive, impactful digitization in agricultural development.

The Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa project (AICCRA) working through CCAFS, intends to make CGIAR-led cutting-edge science practices/technologies/tools available throughout Africa; especially in Sub-regions extremely vulnerable to climate change. The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM), a network of 150 universities in 38 countries spanning the whole African continent is a partner in the AICCRA project.

IFPRI is participating in the 2023 annual CGIAR Gender Research Conference. This conference is co-hosted by the CGIAR GENDER Impact Platform and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and will take place in New Delhi, India, on October 9-12, 2023.

Armed conflict and gendered participation in agrifood systems: Survey evidence from 29 African countries

Context Climate change is projected to negatively impact food systems in Sub-Saharan Africa. The magnitude of these impacts is expected to be amplified by the extensive reliance on rainfed agriculture and the prevalence of subsistence farming. In the Great Lakes Region of Central Africa, smallholder farming households are largely dependent on root, tuber and banana crops. However, the potential impacts of various climate change scenarios on these crops are not well reported.

Despite increased attention toward the links between climate, human mobility and conflict, the pathways
through which resulting human insecurity may lead to violence are poorly understood. Although there
is no inherent link between climate-related mobility and conflict, a coherent understanding of the triple
nexus is needed to address the impact of intersecting crises on millions of lives and livelihoods. To
achieve this, an in-depth literature review is employed to identify and explore four pathways that connect

The CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), through its Flagship on Low-Emissions Development—otherwise known as Flagship 3 (FP3)— seeks to address the increasing challenge that global warming is placing on agricultural practices, policies and measures and the overall challenge of declining food security. CCAFS was established in 2010 as a cross-cutting program of the 15 CGIAR Research Centers and strategic partnerships.

This document is a supplement to the UNFCCC NAP technical guidelines. It aims to raise awareness amongst national policymakers on the potential importance of digital agriculture (DA) in National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), provide tangible information on how it can be incorporated into NAP formulation and propose ways forward to implementing DA at scale.
The research for this supplement included reviewing the existing literature on digital agriculture and its role in supporting climate adaptation, alongside consultations with experts from the research community and UNFCCC.

The primary purpose of the review is to assess the extent to which the GLDC is delivering quality of science and demonstrating effectiveness in relation to its theories of change (ToCs) in the approved proposal. Its objectives are to fulfill CGIAR’s obligations for accountability and donor support for international agricultural research; assess the effectiveness and evolution of research program’s work; and provide an opportunity for GLDC to generate insights, including lessons for future CGIAR research modalities.
