During the last decade, post-harvest losses (PHL) reduction has been topping the agenda of governments as a pathway for addressing food security, poverty, and nutrition challenges in Africa. Using survey data from 579 households, we investigated the factors that affect farmers’ decisions to adopt post-harvest technologies: mechanized shelling, drying tarpaulins, and airtight storage validated for reducing PHL in Tanzania’s maize-based systems, and the impacts on households’ food security and welfare.

The study evaluated 33 accessions of groundnut in the field, consisting of 23 landraces from Nasarawa communities in Nigeria and 10 inbred lines. Assessment entailed the determination of plant survivorship, yield related parameters and pathological indices while genetic diversity study was undertaken using SSR and RAPD molecular markers. Data analysis was done on the Minitab 17.0 software. Significant variability was noted in all traits except in pod sizes, seed sizes and % infected seeds.

Work Package Three (WP3) of the Agroecology Initiative (AE-I) aims to enhance the integration of agroecology principles in businesses as a way to facilitate the transition of agrifood systems towards agroecology. To achieve this, WP3 aims to collaborate with selected private sector companies to develop and implement business models (BMs) that support or are compatible with the agroecological transition further. This report outlines the re-engagement activities carried out by the AE-I team in Zimbabwe with the private enterprises between June and August 2023.

The Amazon Basin features a vast network of healthy, free-flowing rivers, which provides habitat for the most biodiverse freshwater fauna of any basin globally. However, existing and future infrastructure developments, including dams, threaten its integrity by diminishing river connectivity, altering flows, or changing sediment regimes, which can impact freshwater species.

This Synthesis Report (SYR) of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) summarises the state of knowledge of climate change, its widespread impacts and risks, and climate change mitigation and adaptation, based on the peer-reviewed scientific, technical and socio-economic literature since the publication of the IPCC’s Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) in 2014.

The urgency with which the world needs to combat climate change has led to ambitious commitments by
leading food companies such as Nestlé. Given that a large proportion of emissions in supply chains occur during the
production of commodities, focus has converged on Regenerative Agriculture as a key strategy to achieve
those goals. The Regenerative Agriculture agenda coalesces around three main goals:
• Reduce the Carbon Footprint
• Enhance Soil Health
• Enhance and safeguard Biodiversity

This study describes what did and did not work in the prioritization of preferred traits within the value chain of yam and associated food products (boiled and pounded yam) in Nigeria. Demand-led breeding protocols have enhanced participatory methods along gender lines to increase the clarity of information on the yam traits preferred by farmers and other end users.

Soil salinization is a significant form of land degradation in agricultural areas. Remote sensing is a better way to assess soil salinity than traditional methods, as it provides non-destructive and repetitive informative assessment for monitoring and mapping soil salinity. Different sensors can identify soil salinity in remote sensing data through direct and indirect indicators. A Brief review of the major soil salinity mapping studies is presented here.

The participation, engagement, and interaction of local actors in the Innovahubs is an essential part of the development and strengthening of the subnational innovation systems, so knowing and understanding the nature, identity and presence, and involvement of each type of actor over time is essential to understand their behavior and motivations to partake in the knowledge and innovation processes. Therefore, this report seeks to update on the actors participating in the relevant activities in the Innovahub, their activities, and the type of relations they have with other actors.
