Land transformation implemented in Lulong, China's Hebei

NEA holds inception seminar for land/seascape GEF-6 project

The management of the National Environment Agency (NEA) and other stakeholders last Thursday held a day-long inception seminar for the GEF-6 project.

The GEF-6 project is a five-year pilot project amounting to US$5.6 million for the implementation of the GEF-6 land/seascape planning and ecosystem restoration.

The inception, held at the Kairaba Beach Hotel was attended by various district authorities, government official, staff of NEA, Park and Wildlife, Ministry of Environment and Department of Forestry among others.

Resist divorcing land titling from land use planning in informal settlements

As it was widely reported in the newspapers of August 12, 2021, the government in partnership with NMB Bank, has launched a five-year Plot Loan scheme to enable land owners in informal settlements to survey and get title to their land. This was in part a result of the realisation that land owners were finding it difficult to foot the cost of surveying, registering and obtaining title deeds. Hand in hand with the loan, the cost of surveying has been reduced from Sh150,000 to Sh130,000. The project is being piloted in Mbarali District before rolling out to other areas,

MORE than 75 per cent of Tanzanians live in urban areas in unplanned settlements, the situation contributed by the government slow pace in urban planning drive.

The remarks were made here yesterday by Shinyanga Regional Commissioner Dr Philemon Sengati at the opening of a task meeting that among others, reviewed the implementation of the Strategic Plan for 2020/21, and discussed challenges on solutions to land conflicts as well completing the implementation of National Land Formalization Plan on settlements for 2013- 2023.

Govt Announces Mass Verification of Title Deeds

The Ministry of Lands and Planning is set to embark on mass verification of title deeds in Nairobi's Thome area following reports of fraudulent land transactions.

In a notice, the Lands CS stated that the validation exercise of the title deeds in Nairobi Block 110 would commence from May 24 to June 2021.

The exercise, she noted, would apply to all plot owners in the area to establish the validity of the records showing ownership.

Growing demand for horticulture investment impeded by unavailability of land

The Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association (EHPEA) called on the government to avail land and ease its bureaucratic hurdles to help local and international horticulture firms looking to invest in Ethiopia.


Speaking to The Reporter this week, Executive Director of EHPEA, Tewodros Zewdie lamented federal and regional authorities’ weaknesses to provide land and their extended bureaucratic systems, amid the enormous request which is coming from international and domestic horticulture firms to invest in different parts of the country.
