Response to Forest land diversion for mining question in Parliament in 2016

Reports & Research
July, 2016
India

The India Environment Portal is initiated and managed by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) in 2005. It puts together information about environment and development issues in one-stop shop. Information provided include data on forest land diversion for mining state-wise and their ecological impact along with steps taken by government.

Reports & Research
June, 2015
India

A Preliminary Assessment by RRI, Vasundhara and NRMC. Provides  potential area, state, district and village wise area over which CFR (and IFR) rights can be recognized under the FRA; now used as a baseline for planning and effective implementation of CFR rights, assess the extent to which the law has been implemented; delineate data on forest land, villages & population within village boundaries and CFR Recognition Status.

Genetic equilibrium in Cheilosia vernalis populations (Diptera: Syrphidae)

Policy Papers & Briefs
December, 2005
Serbia
Montenegro

Genetic equilibrium of polymorphic enzyme loci from four natural populations of Cheilosia vernalis was tested. The study populations were from different regions of the Balkan Peninsula: Mediterranean area (Morinj, Montenegro: CVMOR), low mountain in the Pannonian plain (Fruska Gora, Serbia: CVFG), and two high Dinaric mountains (Durmitor, Montenegro: CVDUR; and Kopaonik, Serbia: CVKOP). Out of twelve enzyme loci analyzed for genetic variability, only four to six were polymorphic in the studied populations.

Приоритетные инвестиционные проекты как механизм государственного стимулирования развития конкуренции в лесном секторе России

The article as a factor in the development of competition in the market of timber resources the mechanism of public-private partnership on the basis of priority investment projects in the area of forest. Present-
ed a systematic analysis of the implementation of investment projects, problems and prospects of development of the competitive environment in the industry.

Analysis of the structure of forest landscape in the Bauska district [Latvia]

Policy Papers & Briefs
December, 2010
Latvia

The aim of this paper is to analyze the structure of forest landscape and its impact on biodiversity in the Bauska District, Latvia. The database of the State Forest Service and field research from 1994 to 2004 were used. Diversity and protection of the current forest ecosystems were described using different forest classification methods. The structure of tree species and their age was analyzed. Analysis indicated a decrease of oak forests by 3.5% of their native vegetation area and a high proportion of drained forests, as well as a disproportional age structure of forest ecosystems.

Mise au point d' un modele cartographique pour la description des stations forestieres en Ardenne belge

Development of a cartographic mdel for the forest site types delineation in the Belgian Ardenne. The paper presents an original method dealing with the forest site types delineation. The suggested method consists in integrating a typological key in a GIS aiming at producing a thematic map that describes forest site types. Data used are the soil map of Belgium (digitized at the scale 1:20,000) and a digital elevation model built from a topographic map (scale 1:10,000). The typological key is mainly based on the methodology used by Thill et al.

Carbon pool in different land uses in Germany

Journal Articles & Books
December, 2011
Germany

The impact of land use on carbon pools were investigated in three different land use types (forestland. arable land and grassland) in Katinger Watt area in Northern Germany. The area was once a sea-floor (tidal Hat) that was dyked in 1973. Relevant conditions for carbon turnover in the studied area were similar, thus the differences in carbon pool during soil genesis were attributed to different land use systems. Calculations were based on estimated above ground (ABG) and below ground (BGB) living plant biomass and soil organic carbon (SOC) at depth 0-30 cm.

Analysis of rural landscape structure use in Southern Lithuania

Conference Papers & Reports
December, 2011
Latvia
Lithuania

Rural landscape of the southern part of Lithuania as well as its use is analysed in the article. The defects of land reclamation system cause the rise of deserted lands. Dampness and bagged up soils are a large obstacle for the proper use of deserted lands. One more reason is lands of low productivity. The third reason of the rise of deserted lands is the shortage and default of perspective farmers and agricultural companies who are able to lease and cultivate land.

Long-term fragmentation dynamics in semi-natural forest landscape

Policy Papers & Briefs
December, 2014
Latvia

Study was conducted in north-eastern Latvia (57° 38’ N, 22° 17’ E): in a part of Slitere National Park that was un-managed since year 1923 and affected by large storm in November of 1969. Supervised classification of Corona and Landsat 5 images of the area (in total 1646 ha) from years before and after the storm (1966–2010) were carried out and parameters characterizing the fragmentation calculated for 3 land-cover classes: forest, areas with low woody biomass and non-forest areas.

Landuse impacts on SOC fractions and aggregate stability in typic ustochrepts of Northwest India

Journal Articles & Books
December, 2011

The soil organic carbon (SOC) and its fractions are good indicators of soil quality and environmental stability. Among the factors affecting SOC pool and fluxes in a watershed, land use changes and soil erosion are factors of importance. The differences in SOC and its fractions among different land uses can help understand the process of soil carbon dynamics. A study was conducted in Typic Ustochrepts of Northwest India to understand the impact of forest, grassland, agricultural and eroded lands on aggregate stability and SOC fractions.
