Participatory engagement of communities is key to establish clearer understanding of existing challenges, collectively identify plausible solutions, and to ensure sustainable adoption of innovative technologies and practices. Community Conversations (CCs) offer unique opportunities to facilitate dialogue among groups of a community and key local government and research institutions on selected topics of interest.

Livestock production supports economic growth, jobs and nutrition, but contributes to and is vulnerable to climate change. A transition is thus needed for livestock systems to become more sustainable and climate resilient, with clear positive effects on the Sustainable Development Goals. It is unclear, however, where the global community should invest to support this change. We identified priority geographies for livestock system investments in 132 low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), at mid- and low latitudes.

This report is based on the Inventory of GHG emissions from cattle, sheep, and goats in Ethiopia (1994-2018) calculated using the IPCC Tier 2 approach approved by the Ministry of Agriculture (Wilkes et al., 2020). That national inventory report presented in detail the data sources, methods and results for GHG emissions from cattle, sheep and goats at the national level. This report summarizes the main results for each region in Ethiopia.

Abstract Livestock production is critical for improved food and nutrition security, sustainability of ecosystems, and resilience. Zambia, like many countries in sub-Saharan Africa, aspires to increase livestock’s contribution to the Gross Domestic Product and generate economic opportunities. Global environmental change, however, and the potential of ruminant production to exacerbate it, requires the implementation of innovative and pragmatic technologies for mitigation of and adaptation to the adverse effects of environmental change.

“How can we continue with our studies?” was one of the first questions asked to the teachers by Luisa, a student attending the Heirs of Tradition livestock production program, implemented by Alquería and the National Training Service (SENA, its Spanish acronym) in Colombia, in view of the relentless spread of the COVID- 19 pandemic in Colombia.1 At first sight, the predictable complications brought along by mandatory confinement to halt the spread of the pandemic could be overcome virtually, the way many students from urban schools and universities are still doing.
