Climate Finance Mapping in Mali and Senegal

The objective of this study is to review promised climate change financing allocated and available for the livestock sector and compare financing for adaptation to that for mitigation for Mali and Senegal. This includes a desk review of proposed or existing projects and examines the allocation of resources for climate adaptation and mitigation in livestock production systems or to support livestock-related livelihoods.

The second round of livestock feed and forage technology media engagement

During the first round of media engagement, media assessment was conducted in three regions (Amhara, Oromia and SNNPR), aiming to identify appropriate regional radio stations, paving the way for a possible partnership with the media houses and understanding capacity (training) needs for journalists. As a result, Debre Birhan Fana FM 94.0 / Debre Birhan, OBN FM 96.5 / Bale and, Hosaena FM 95.3 / Hossaena were identified as appropriate regional radio stations.

CCAFS impact assessment of national policy engagement in Kenya and livelihood impact of uptake of climate-smart agriculture technologies and practices - 2021

The study assessed the impact of CCAFS engagement at policy and household level in Kenya. Specifically, the study assessed the extent to which CCAFS engagement contributed to the observed changes in terms of shaping policy and CSA coordination among others. At the household level the study assessed the factors influencing uptake of CSA practices among smallholder farmers and the subsequent impact of the CSA practices on household dietary diversity, value of household livestock holding and household assets and per capita monthly expenditure as well as GHG emission.

Accelerating the utilization of climate-smart agriculture technologies and innovations: How existing policies can foster investment decisions?

This Info Note documents AICCRA engagement and technical assistance to 12 countries in West Africa and the Sahel on how to leverage on existing policies to foster investments for scaling CSA technologies. At least one national policy document on climate change exists in each of the countries. Leveraging on the visions and strategic orientations of these climate policies, relevant CSA technologies and innovations were prioritized. Subsequently, need quantification was made.

Livestock production is a fundamental source of income and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Latin American countries. 20 percent of the region's emissions come from agriculture, 70 percent of which comes from livestock. There are several management and technology options with enteric methane mitigation potential that have been evaluated and their scale is expected to contribute to achieving the GHG emission reduction targets under the Paris Agreement.

The livestock sector transformation in Ethiopia: the fundamental role of animal identification, registration, data recording and traceability systems

Livestock production in Ethiopia is predominated by extensive production systems where animals graze in communal grazing lands that exposes to disease transmission and indiscriminate breeding. Intensive stall feeding occurs, mostly in peri-urban settings, with cows mainly fed on straw and limited fresh forages. Animal movement within the country for herd replacement poses disease risk due to lack of movement control.
