The government of Ucayali, Peru, adopts deforestation-free, low- emissions strategies to strengthen cocoa and palm oil value chains

The strategies developed to promote deforestation-free, low- emission cocoa and oil palm value chains have been officially adopted by the regional government of Ucayali to guide public and private stakeholders towards improved sectorial and agricultural development. Both documents have been developed by the Alliance of Bioversity and CIAT in the framework of a project on “Business models to address drivers of deforestation in Peru” or Sustainable Amazon Businesses (SAB).

The Bangladesh polder zones cover 1.2 million hectares of agricultural land and are home to around eight million people with women playing a critical role in agriculture and food systems. With limited access to and control over productive resources and incomes, women are disproportionately vulnerable to climatic risks. Their ability to make important decisions can have positive outcomes on the governance of natural resources, agricultural productivity, and livelihoods.

Piloting participatory rangeland management (PRM) in Tanzania and Kenya was a 48-month EU-funded project. The project ran from December 2017 to December 2021. Its overarching goal was to improve the livelihood and nutrition status of pastoralist communities in East Africa by improving rangeland management to secure and better use rangelands and expand the role of women in selected pastoral communities in Kenya and Tanzania.

Scaling of Different Innovations from SI-MFS (WP4)

The SI-MFS initiative in Bangladesh working on different innovations such as intensifying and diversifying cropping systems for better crop-livestock integration, intensifying and diversifying homestead gardens for improved nutrition, and sustainable intensification of livestock production within MFS. Under these initiatives, SI-MFS has done several scaling activities in 2023.
