This Act establishes a Property Registration Authority, defines its functions and powers and internal organization and provides for the registration of deeds, i.e. documents by which an estate or interest in land is created, transferred, charged or otherwise affected. The Act consists of 78 sections divided into 5 Parts.The functions of the Authority are, among other things: (a) to manage and control the Registry of Deeds and the Land Registry, (b) to promote and extend the registration of ownership of land; and (c) to deal with applications under Part III of the Landlord and Tenant (Ground Rents) (No. 2) Act 1978. The Act provides also for a Registry of Deeds and a Registration of Deeds and Title Rules Committee. The Committee shall perform the functions assigned to it under the Registration of Titles Act, 1964.
