The Action Plan of Combating Erosion is a national plan with a sectoral approach. The timeframe of the Action Plan is 5 years between 2013 and 2017. The main objectives of this Action Plan are (i) giving priority to the areas under high erosion risk and preventing soil loss, (ii) implementing erosion control works in river catchments to ensure risk reduction of flood, (iii) taking erosion control measures to ensure sustainability of dams and ponds and to increase quality and quantity of water in the catchments providing potable water, (iv) implementing erosion control works for soil conservation as well as food security, (v) lessening the adverse effects of climate change, global warming and desertification, (vi) establishing erosion monitoring system and developing new techniques with research studies, (vii) ensuring sustainable use of natural resources by strengthening institutional capacity and the cooperation among institutions, (viii) protecting national resources by public awareness, public participation and capacity building. Actions will be taken to combat erosion such as updating maps of soil and erosion risk, establishing erosion and catchment monitoring system and potential afforestation fields data base, preparing an integrated catchment plan and projects regarding land consolidation, climate friendly agricultural implementations, land use planning and soil survey, as well as improving research and development studies in the relevant field.
