The FAO Legal Office provides in-house counsel in accordance with the Basic Texts of the Organization, gives legal advisory services to FAO members, assists in the formulation of treaties on food and agriculture, for which the Director-General acts as Depositary, publishes legal studies and maintains a database (FAOLEX) of national legislation and international agreements concerning food and agriculture (including fisheries, forestry and water).

Act on Acquisition of and Compensation for Land for Public Works Projects.
The purpose of this Act is to ensure the promotion of public welfare and the appropriate protection of property rights through the efficient implementation of public works, by prescribing matters for the indemnification of any loss incurred by the acquisition or use of land, etc. required for the public works through consultations or expropriation. "Public works" means projects for national defence, for public interest (railroads, airports, etc.), for schools, museums, office buildings, etc. (art. 4).
Foreigner's Land Acquisition Act.
The purpose of this Act is to prescribe matters necessary for land acquisition, etc. of foreigners within the territory of the Republic of Korea. “Foreigner” is defined in article 2. As far as corporations are concerned, substantially at least of the corporation shall be foreign so as to qualify as foreigner. Article 3 outline the principle of reciprocity, i.e.
Public Land Reservation Act.
The purposes of this Act is to contribute to the smooth supply of sites for public works and the stabilization of the land market by prescribing necessary matters regarding the reservation and supply of public land. The Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport shall establish and implement a comprehensive plan for the reservation of public land every 10 years for the smooth supply of public works and the stabilization of the land market.
Order No. 540 of the Ministry of Economic Development validating classification of the authorized use of land plots”.
This Order classifies authorized uses of land plots and, in particular, use of agricultural land for plant cultivation, crops, horticulture, gardening, cultivation of medicinal plants, flax, hemp, ranching, stockbreeding, poultry farming, apiculture and fishfarming.
