The IITA agripreneur movement: a dynamic approach to youth empowerment across Africa

December, 2022
Global

The Agripreneur Movement of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) allows youth to assume their rightful place in African agricultural transformation. It started as a single exploratory agribusiness incubation at IITA Headquarters in 2012, involving 37 youths. It has since grown to 10 countries through nine sponsoring organizations. We compiled the characteristics and outcomes of 40 Agripreneur projects between 2012 and 2021 to describe the movement’s growth.

Capacity building program to improve stakeholder resilience and adaptation to climate change in Jamaica (CBCA)

December, 2021
Jamaica

Jamaica will face future climate trends marked by increases in the intensity and frequency of climate extremes, escalating rainfall variability, and increased droughts and floods; combined with fragile ecosystems and sensitive coastal zones, the result is that Jamaica has a relatively high vulnerability to climate change.

Environment and Social Risk Management (ESRM) Guide-AICCRA Additional Financing (P181150)

December, 2022
Global

This Environmental and Social Risk Management (ESRM) Guide has been updated for the Additional Financing (AF) of the Accelerating Impact of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA) project (P181150). This updated ESRM Guide will be used for the Parent Project (P173398) and the AF (P181150). This Guide is for use by CIAT and all the research institutions receiving Grants under the AICCRA-AF project. Institutions or entities that carry out sub-contracted activities for the research institutions will also be required to comply with the requirements of this Guide.

Food security's broken link: The misalignment of stakeholder priorities in agriculture and nutrition in Vihiga County, Kenya

December, 2022
Kenya

Global food security will exist when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life. Today, about 2 billion of the 7.96 billion people on Earth are food insecure. Food insecurity is still a challenge in Kenya despite different sectors' interventions in nutrition and agriculture.

Guideline for agronomy and soil fertility data collection in Ethiopia: National standard

December, 2019
Ethiopia

Recently, recognition has been growing of the
power of data and information for better decisionmaking
and service provision in agriculture. To
ensure good data quality, an agreed standard to
collect, store, and share data along the agricultural
value chain is required.
With this background, the purpose of this guideline
is to provide guidance on standardizing soil and
agronomy data collection and thereby enhance
temporal and spatial data interoperability.

Protocol for Participatory on-Farm experiment for Aquaculture Homestead Pond

December, 2022
Malaysia

The Asian Mega-Deltas is one of the CGIAR’s research initiatives which aims to create resilient, inclusive and productive deltas, which maintain socio-ecological integrity, adapt to climatic and other stressors, and support human prosperity and wellbeing, by removing systemic barriers to the scaling of transformative technologies and practices at community, national and regional levels.

Multi-stakeholder platforms and processes in Ethiopia: The case from agriculture and water management.

December, 2020
Ethiopia

The importance of actively involving and engaging multiple stakeholders in agricultural research and development is well recognized. The need to address complex agricultural problems at multiple levels and across sectors has led to the development of multi-stakeholder platforms and processes (MSPs) in order to bring together multiple actors via different means (Dentoni et al. 2012; Breeman et al. 2015; Bisseleua et al. 2018). Such MSPs are increasingly seen as a promising vehicle for agricultural innovation in developing countries (Hemmati 2002; Adekunle and Fatunbi 2012; Schut et al.

AgroFIMS: A tool to enable digital collection of standards-compliant FAIR data

December, 2020
Global

Agricultural research has been traditionally driven by linear approaches dictated by hypothesis-testing. With the advent of powerful data science capabilities, predictive, empirical approaches are possible that operate over large data pools to discern patterns. Such data pools need to contain well-described, machine-interpretable, and openly available data (represented by high-scoring Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable—or FAIR—resources).

Bundle 4 diversified integrated mixed chicken/goats – legume systems: Legume Value Chains; Changing Lives, Protecting Nature

December, 2020
Global

Community Markets for Conservation (COMACO) is a social enterprise that finances improved agricultural practices through the adoption of agroforestry and a legume-based farming system that increases food crop yields and market opportunities for over 230,000 small-scale farmers. The proposed project will build on this foundation that spans 19 years of growing a brand called It’s Wild! of 20 different value-added food products by partnering with the Chitetezo Co-operative Federation.

Who has the better story? On the narrative foundations of agricultural development dichotomies

December, 2019
Global

While there is consensus on the need to promote agricultural development in Africa to achieve food security and use agriculture as an engine of growth, there is a lively policy debate on appropriate policies to achieve this goal. In the past two decades, there has been a revival of policies that favor government support to agriculture in Africa, especially in the form of input subsidies.

Maize production under combined conservation agriculture and integrated soil fertility management in the sub-humid and semi-arid regions of Kenya

December, 2019
Kenya

Crop production in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) is constrained by rainfall variability and declining soil fertility. This has over time led to a decrease in crop yield, among them also maize. This decrease is also experienced in the sub-humid and semi-arid locations of Kenya. Among the commonly used soil and water management practices in SSA are Conservation Agriculture (CA) and integrated soil fertility management (ISFM). Crop response to these management practices is influenced by the existence of soil fertility gradients which are common among smallholder farmers.
