L'eau est un bien précieux dans les régions semi-arides du Rajasthan, en Inde. En outre, le changement climatique exerce une pression supplémentaire sur les ressources rares. Des précipitations irrégulières, voire inexistantes, obligent un grand nombre de petits paysans à abandonner au moins temporairement leurs champs, afin de chercher du travail dans les villes.

L?élevage et la commercialisation d?animaux utiles permettent d?assurer quotidiennement la subsistance de plus d?un milliard de personnes. Mais aussi essentiels qu?ils soient pour l?alimentation, le revenu et la santé, ces systèmes d?élevage tropicaux peuvent autant altérer qu?améliorer les ressources en terres et en eau et génèrent, comme tous les systèmes d?élevage partout dans le monde, des gaz à effet de serre, qui contribuent au réchauffement climatique.

La république du Ghana, l'une des démocraties africaines les plus stables, fait face à une surexploitation continue de ses ressources naturelles résultant en d'énormes pertes financières et de graves implications pour les populations pauvres. Le projet « Forêts tropicales et adaptation au changement climatique », financé par l'Union européenne, tente d'identifier des instruments appropriés pour le financement de mesures d'adaptation au changement climatique. L'un de ces outils de financement pourrait être le paiement pour services environnementaux ou PSE.

Planning for climate resilience growth is increasingly important for the natural resource dependent economy of Tanzania. Central government does not have the knowledge, reach, skills or resources needed to plan for the range of livelihoods within Tanzania; but local governments, if granted the authority and resources, could plan with communities in the flexible, timely and appropriate manner that climate variability demands.

Climate change and its implications on development in Tanzania should not be understated or ignored. Instead, discussions on our changing climate should begin with the recognition that climate change is undermining efforts to eradicate poverty. Yet, scientific complexities, jargon, uncertainties and debate have led to a general lack of understanding and confusion on how to address a changing climate, including policy prescriptions.

Over the years, PINGOs Forum has been concerned with the future of Pastoral and HunterGatherer communities with regard to changing patterns of traditional land use and livelihoods options. The information gathered from the past studies have risen much concern on the side of PINGOs Forum that perhaps climate change may have a serious bearing in the land use patterns and livelihoods of Pastoralists and Hunter-gatherers. As a result of this concern, PINGOs Forum decided to embark on a study to observe changes that have occurred in land use patterns in recent years.

Pastoralist and hunter-gatherer communities in Tanzania are gaining rights to own and control their land as the foundation for generating new income through REDD+ 

Through a range of local initiatives and collaborations developed over the past 15 years, Tanzania’s Yaeda Valley, the primary remaining home territory for the last community of Hadzabe hunter-gatherers, has become a model for community-based conservation.
