The Ghana Cluster of the Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA) project, led by the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and its partners are working on an Early Warning and Rapid Response System for Pests and Diseases (EWRRS-PD) to enhance communication, data sharing, and preparedness against new risks. Following several preparatory meetings, a workshop was held to validate a partnership agreement between eleven public and private sector institutions whose core mandate relates to the subject.

Livestock production in Tanzania remains overwhelmingly traditional, especially for ruminants, while domestic demand remains very much for products produced in traditional value chains. However, there are opportunities for upgrading value chains, especially in manufacturing leather and expanding productivity for milk and meat. Given the high potential climate impact of these livestock activities, it is important to understand their carbon dynamics and emission impacts.

Growing attention to food environment policies has been observed to address the multiple aspects of malnutrition (Kumar et al. 2023). In India, interventions promoting sustainable agriculture, small-scale farming, and equitable access to markets have been initiated to address the food and nutrition security of economically vulnerable groups. However, transformative interventions require deeper understanding specific contexts and a deep knowledge of the food environment.

With a focus on oceans, we collaborated across ecological, social and legal disciplines to respond to the United Nations call for transformation in the ‘2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’. We developed a set of 13 principles that strategically and critically connect transformative ocean research to transformative ocean governance (complementing the UN Decade for Ocean Science). We used a rigorous, iterative and transparent consensus-building approach to define the principles, which can interact in supporting, neutral or sometimes conflicting ways.

The dynamic digitalization of agri-food systems has generated a call for a Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) approach, emphasizing ethical and sustainable technology adoption. Existing RRI frameworks prioritize fair benefits distribution, data privacy, and stakeholder engagement, aiming for transparent governance and proactive risk management. Despite these efforts, challenges persist in responsible digital innovation, including an excessive focus on technology design, inadequate stakeholder engagement, and difficulties in comprehending digital transformation processes.

This report present progress and achievement of the seed multiplication activities under the Ukama Ustawi (UU) regional initiative in Malawi. International potato Center and its key research partner, Department of Agriculture and Research services (DARS) has been carrying out sweetpotato early generation seed (EGS) multiplication at Bvumbwe research stations.

Nature positive agriculture initiative offers sustainable food production system that meet the demands of growing population as well as facilitating the necessity of environmental restoration, biodiversity conservation thereby improving soil, land and water by scientifically supported solutions. Nature positive implement and equitably support food and livelihoods on the ground through a transformative change, initiating at farm and community-level, mainstreaming the research pathways and solutions in the smallholder agricultural systems.

Cocoa production is a major export crop in West African countries such as Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, and Nigeria. These countries collectively contribute to 70% of global cocoa production. Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, and Togo are leading economies and significant hubs for cocoa production. Cocoa cultivation in West Africa primarily relies on rainfall, with approximately six million hectares of land dedicated to cocoa production.

The research note discusses the Small Farmers Large Field (SFLF) collective action piloted in the states of Odisha and Assamaimed at addressing the challenges faced by small and marginal potato farmers. The model focuses on aggregating farmers to achieve bargaining power, synchronize operations, and improve quality by adopting a single variety of potato. The study uses a mixed method research design to assess the benefits of the SFLF model, including improved quality of inputs, increased mechanization, emerging social networks, and market linkages.

The current report presents a machine learning model developed to predict malaria prevalence based on rainfall patterns, specifically tailored to different regions within Senegal. The developed model takes into account the varying climate conditions across regions to provide a more localized and accurate prediction. The primary input parameters used for prediction include rainfall, month, and year, allowing the model to capture each region's seasonal variations and trends.

Women are underrepresented in leadership and have more limited influence than men over decisions in climate change governance processes at multiple scales. The CGIAR Initiative on Gender Equality (HER+) has explored public and private sector approaches to increase women’s agency and leadership in agrifood system governance with the goal of increasing women’s climate resilience. However, further research is required to fully explore the mechanisms through which women’s leadership influences climate resilience.

Knowledge management and sharing is essential for agricultural development, fostering the exchange of valuable information and innovative practices among researchers, farmers, and extension officers. Recognising this, regional initiatives such as Ukama Ustawi (UU) play a critical role in ensuring that research findings are not confined to academic journals but are made accessible to those who need them the most.
