"Land amelioration" is defined in section 2 as "the drainage, irrigation or double-purpose regulation of water conditions, also the application of agromeliorative or land cultivation measures". Another key term used in this Law, "Amelioration System" (abbreviated "AS") is defined as "the complex of buildings and constructions for drainage, irrigation or double regulation of water conditions". This Law makes provisions in 25 sections for the construction, ownership, use and maintenance of Amelioration Systems and the creation of Amelioration Associations.

This Act provides for the conservation of land in St. Lucia, for the establishment of a Board to be known as the Land Conservation Board, for conferring on that Board functions as to land, and for purposes connected therewith or incidental thereto. Land is defined as including land covered by water and in fact this Act contains provisions on drainage works.

In order to improve the condition of reservoirs of water the Collector, as defined in section 2, may serve a notice on the person having control over a tank which has fallen into disrepair or disuse requiring such person to carry out improvements of the tank as the Collector considers necessary (sect. 3). If improvements are not carried out to the satisfaction of the Collector he may declare the tank to be a derelict tank.

Provisions of this Ordinance amend the Principal Act by: (a) replacing the magistrate in charge with the "Upazila Nirbahi Officer" as being an office elegible to be a Collector in the sense of this Act; (b) changing the rate of interest for compensation and lease under section 8 and section 9, respectively; (c) changing the rate of fees payable to authorized persons under section 17; (d) changing the amount of penalty imposed under section 35.

This Act establishes principles for the development, management and preservation of agricultural activities (defined in Part II) in Laos. "Agriculture" is intended in a broad sense and thus the Act includes provisions relating to cultivation of crops, animal husbandry, fisheries, irrigation, management and conservation of agricultural land, use of fertilizers, protection of the environment, food supply, etc. Rights and duties of persons undertaking agricultural activities are outlined in article 10.

Pending adoption of comprehensive guidelines on land conversion to implement section 20 of the Local Government Code which gives powers to local government units to reclassify agricultural land in circumstance where such land ceases to be viable for agricultural purposes, these guidelines regulate place restrictions on conversion of agricultural lands. All irrigated land for cultivation and all land within areas programmed for irrigation facility rehabilitation by the Department of Agriculture and the National Irrigation Administration shall not be subject to conversion.

Tigray National Regional State's Rural Land Usage Proclamation No. 23/1997.

This Proclamation lays down rules relative to the ownership and use of land in the National State of Tigray. Land is declared to be "joint property" of the State and can not be sold, exchanged, given in lease or as bond for an indefinite time. Farmers may use land in their possession under conditions as set out in this Proclamation. The actual state of land is declared to be "accepted" under the present Proclamation. Farmers can give their land in lease under article 7. Article 8 concerns the lease of state land.

The purpose of this Law is the determination, delimitation, allocation of areas such as ranges, pastures, wintersheds (winter range lands) or highlands to juridical entities like villages or municipalities and making use of them in a manner abiding by the rules, increasing or sustaining productivity through maintenance and improvement, controlling that use continuously, protecting them and changing their purpose of use when necessary. The determination, delimitation and allocation of ranges, highlands and wintersheds are undertaken by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

In this Act "land development" means any act done to soil or land in order to increase its richness or quality, or to increase agricultural produce, and includes the improvement of soil or land which lacks natural fertility or lacks fertility due to its utilisation, and soil and water conservation to maintain natural balance or for suitable utilisation of land for agriculture. There shall be a committee called the "Land Development Committee" composed of ministers and Government officers.

The Bureau of Soil Conservation shall have a headed by the Director of Soil Conservation, to be appointed by the President. All the divisions, sections, field activities and agencies of the Government connected with soils work are hereby transferred to the Bureau of Soil Conservation and such powers, functions and duties relative to soils vested by law or executive orders are hereby vested in the Director of Soil Conservation.
