Review Paper: Status of Coastal and Marine Ecosystem Management in South Asia

The coastal sub-region of South Asia including Bangladesh, India, the Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka harbours some of the world’s most significant coastal and marine ecosystems such as coral reefs, mangroves, seagrass meadows, river deltas and estuaries. They play a crucial role in reducing the effects of natural disasters. The paper reviews the status of coastal and marine ecosystem management in the region to enable adoption of an integrated approach to ecosystem management for effective risk reduction.

The Cambodia environment monitor 2008 is one of a series of environmental reports prepared for East Asian countries under an initiative sponsored by the World Bank. The objective of this series is to present a snapshot of environmental trends across a range of issues. The purpose of the monitor is to engage and inform interested stakeholders about key environmental changes in an easy to understand format accessible to a wide audience. This report identifies seven strategic priorities for the Royal government of Cambodia and its conservation partners.

The objective of this study is to improve understanding of the implications of climate change for the groundwater systems in coastal Bangladesh. This is achieved by: (a) obtaining available geologic, hydrologic, and geochemical information on coastal aquifers of Bangladesh; (b) developing groundwater flow and salt transport models representing general features and conditions along the coast of Bangladesh; and (c) simulating potential changes in the groundwater systems due to various aspects of human activity and climate change.

Le présent décret modifie certaines dispositions du Code de l'urbanisme relatives aux espaces remarquables du littoral. Lorsqu'ils identifient des espaces ou milieux relevant du présent article, les documents d'urbanisme précisent, le cas échéant, la nature des activités et catégories d'équipements nécessaires à leur gestion ou à leur mise en valeur notamment économique.

This Decree regulates the Regional Management Plan for Algarve (PROT-Algarve). It consists of 6 chapters and 1 table establishing the objectives of the said Plan, which shall be drawn-up in order to: a) establish a strategy for the natural resource development and explotation within this area; b) protect and valorize the Region of Algarve; c) regulate soil use and transformation in order to develop the potentialities of this coastal area; d) preserve natural heritage; e) enforce regional plans for land management; f) enforce regional projects, etc.
