Mortgage Insurance Act.

This Act grants power to the Jamaica Mortgage Bank to effect contracts of insurance for loans insurable under this Act. Loans include loans for the purchase of agricultural land and loans secured by a first mortgage on agricultural land or not exceeding twenty-five years in term. The Act also provides for criteria and procedures for the execution of the insurance. The Bank shall establish a Mortgage Insurance Fund for purposes of this Act.

The present Law lays down provisions relating to consolidation of land in order to create a functional, environment-friendly and efficient agriculture and forestry. Under the present Law a party to consolidation proceedings is normally entitled to receive land corresponding in value to the land the party owned prior to the consolidation proceedings as compensation in kind. In exceptional cases compensation in kind is partly or fully replaced by compensation in money.

Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958 (Act. No. 24 of 1958).

This Act provides for the preservation of ancient and historical monuments and archaeological sites and remains of national importance and for the regulation of archaeological activities in India.The Central Government will have the power to declare ancient monuments or archaeological sites, etc. to be of national importance. The Director General may, with the sanction of the Central Government, purchase, take lease or assume the guardianship of any protected monument, for its protection or preservation.

This Act provides for the bases and procedure for expropriation of immovables. This Act applies to all cases of expropriation of immovables unless otherwise provided by law. Expropriation is not precluded by provisions of law which prohibit or restrict the transfer or division of immovables or by the rights of third persons entered in the land register.

Plantation Ownership Act.
