Rachel
Turner
Rachel attended Nottingham University obtaining a first class degree in Economics and completed an MSC in Economics at the London School of Economics in 1986.
Rachel has over twenty years of development experience in low and middle income countries of Africa, the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. She has headed the DFID office in Mozambique and with her experience of managing DFID’s relationships with global financial institutions, she has a strong understanding of public and private sector development issues and wide involvement with the multilateral and bilateral development architecture.
Rachel is presently Director of DFID's International Finance Division.

The need to empower women to drive inclusive and sustainable development is a ‘no brainer’. Secure land rights for women, including access to and control over land and other productive assets is key. Some of our programmes, for example in Rwanda and Ethiopia, are taking bold steps in driving women’s land rights and are achieving excellent results, including better yields, incomes, nutrition and health, improved societal status, and greater roles for women in household decision-making, even on the number of children a family will have.
