Given the focus of the research project in understanding how climate change aggravates the vulnerability of poor rural people, the main objective of the research was to identify the fundamental social and environmental causes that put poor rural people in a vulnerable position with view to climate change and to identify their strategies of resilience.

Under the umbrella of a common analytical framework, IFAD and the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS) collaborated with local civil society organisations involved in establishing and maintaining resource governance regimes contributing to pro-poor adaptation. Target groups explicitly included women groups and in many cases women were the main group concerned, both as subjects in the research and in the knowledge sharing activities.
