The village head and the problem of role relevance in the context of declining rural land availability in Malawi

Village heads form the access point to customary land in Malawi. Rapid population growth and agricultural policies that favoured large scale commercial agriculture and permitted the conversion of customary land to private tenure have combined to create land scarcity in Malawi's subsistence sector and consequently affected the role of village heads in land administration, diminishing their status.

Timely identification of agricultural crops in the Temelin NPP vicinity using satellite data in the event of radiation contamination

This study established the possibility of rapid evaluation of land cover structure and situation using as an example the Temelin Nuclear Power Plant (Czech Republic) emergency zone. The composition, surface representation and spatial distribution of crop species in the area of interest were assessed on the basis of satellite data analysis (Landsat 5 TM). The supervised classification method of Landsat data yielded 92% accuracy of classification into the land cover classes.

This project paper concern to introduces the following changes in the Ukraine, Rural Land Titling and Cadastre System Development Project, which into account difficulties experienced with completing the legal framework for parts of the project due to institutional rivalries that have not been resolved. Key messages nclude: current post-election displacement in Kenya is not a new phenomenon but a recurring trend linked to unresolved land grievances, in a context of poor governance and socio-economic insecurity.

Almost two decades have passed since China first enacted legislation to protect farmland from conversion to nonagricultural use. Yet hundreds of thousands of hectares of agricultural land are still developed to urban area each year, raising the question of whether the legislation is effective in preserving farmland from development. This paper examines the effectiveness of the Basic Farmland Protection Regulation in protecting high-quality farmland from urban development in China in the first decade after it came into effect (1995‒2005).

This Law amends articles 2, 30, 45 of Law No. 9482 of 2006 on legalization, urbanization, and integration of unlawful constructions. The amendments affect the scope of law by making it applicable on unlawful constructions built after the date this law enters into force only when the legalization procedures do not require transfer of land ownership. Also, for unlawful constructions built after 2006, the Agency implements the factual assessment of terrain via digital aerial and satellite imaging converted into aerial photography.

This Regional Law establishes that the prices of plots of urban land destined for agricultural production in ownership by agricultural organizations or peasant farms allotted thereto on condition of permanent (open-ended) land tenure or as life-long hereditary possession shall be established with 15 percent reduction in relation to its cadastre value.

La présente ordonnance prévoit qu’à compter du 1er avril 1970, en application de la loi n° 63-441 du 9 janvier 1964 relative au domaine national, tout ressortissant étranger qui n’aurait ni bâti, ni mis en valeur son lot urbain sera déchu de ses droits. Le terrain urbain sera ensuite incorporé dans le domaine de l’Etat.
