This publication is the summary of the proceedings of the Regional Learning Workshop on ‘Land and Natural Resources Tenure Security’ held in Nairobi, Kenya from 30th June -2nd July 2015 as jointly organized by UN-Habitat/Global Land Tool Network and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

In this publication, the issue of tenure security is addressed and assessed in several countries where government, civil society, the private sector and development cooperation initiatives have been implemented for decades. The selected case studies from fifteen countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America ensure not only a eographic balance but they also represent countries with different socio-economic and land-related histories and that have followed different pathways. The studies’ key findings underline the still precarious state of tenure security in many countries.

La publicación aborda tres aspectos centrales de la problemática actual de la tierra en Paraguay: una aproximación a la demanda existente de tierras por parte de la población campesina e indígena, las políticas  públicas relacionadas al acceso a la tierra, y finalmente, aspectos fundamentales de la legislación vigente en esta materia.

This case study has been produced in response to a request to the Evidence on Demand Helpdesk. The objective of the request was to provide a detailed case study on the approach taken to land tenure reform by the DFID-funded Land Tenure Regularisation Programme (LTRSP) in Rwanda. The case study should provide the reader with an understanding of how land tenure reform can work under particular social, political and economic conditions, as well as the approach taken to ensure gender equality in land rights.

After remarkable social and economic reconstruction since 1994, Rwanda aspires to become a middle income country by 2020 with a strong focus on inclusive growth. In this context the Government of Rwanda (GoR) has recognized the critical nature of land policy and agricultural growth.

This video documents the struggle of sugarcane farmers of Valencia, Bukidnon, Philippines in claiming their rights to the land they have long been cultivating. It tells how farmers were harassed by the former landowner who, despite notice of redistribution under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP), wanted to hold on to the land and continued to force evict them.

This publication is the product of the CSO Land Reform Monitoring Initiative, which was spearheaded by ANGOC and undertaken by Land Watch Asia members in seven countries, including Nepal. The said initiative seeks to strengthen CSOs’ capacities in monitoring selected indicators on land, and has proposed common regional indicators for monitoring land tenure and access to land at the regional level.

Last 25-26 October 2010, the Association for Land Reform and Rural Development (ALRD), the Asian NGO Coalition for Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (ANGOC) and the International Land Coalition (ILC) jointly organised this Regional Workshop on Women and Land Rights, as a response to the urgent need to cast the spotlight on women and their access to and ownership of land. The objectives of the workshop were identifying strategic areas and developing a road map for 2011-2012, to strengthen ILC Asia’s work on women’s land rights.

Land Watch Asia (LWA) is a campaign undertaken by a loose coalition of organizations with a view to supporting and advancing the advocacy for access to land in Asia, particularly in the six participating countries, namely: Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Nepal, and the Philippines. LWA campaign ensures that the issues of access to land, agrarian reform, and equitable and sustainable development in rural areas are addressed in national and regional development agendas. It seeks to serve as a monitoring mechanism to assess the status of agrarian reform in the region.

The idea behind this initial survey is simple: to find out if people in India are worried about their existing property rights or lack of them - whether women or men, owners or tenants, in cities or in villages. The survey results reveal that insecurity of property rights is widespread in India.

Across the world, ‘green grabbing’ – the appropriation of land and resources for environmental ends – is an emerging process of deep and growing significance. The vigorous debate on ‘land grabbing’ already highlights instances where ‘green’ credentials are called upon to justify appropriations of land for food or fuel – as where large tracts of land are acquired not just for ‘more efficient farming’ or ‘food security’, but also to ‘alleviate pressure on forests’.
