Urban land markets have a profound effect on how well poor households are able to access the jobs, amenities and services offered in the city. But often the way in which this market works frustrate attempts to open up better located living and business opportunities for poorer urban households and communities, despite government policies and programmes intended to address these challenges. The challenge in South Africa is even larger because of worsening poverty and inequality, and the continuing growth of cities through urbanisation.

In order to check and promote the positive synergies between private companies and rural households, an analysis of past and ongoing experiences of contract farming is required. It represents the main objective of this report. The objectives of this study are to: describe the effects of contract farming schemes, characterize the factors limiting or promoting these various impacts, identify key findings to promote the emergence of positive synergies.

Parte-se do princípio constitucional da função social da propriedade para analisar, sob a perspectiva de gênero, o processo de regularização fundiária da Ponte do Maduro, uma área que abriga mais de oito mil famílias no município de Recife. Serão apresentados os resultados preliminares de pesquisa resultantes de encontros e entrevistas realizados com gestores públicos e representantes da comunidade a ser beneficiada por esse tipo de política pública.
