Histórico do caso
A Serra do Ororubá, em Pesqueira (PE), município encravado no Vale do Ipojuca, é o cenário de um contexto com mais de três séculos de espoliação e morte do povo Xukuru. Mas, nos anos 1980, essa trajetória começou a mudar. Com a nomeação de Xikão como cacique, os Xukuru se articularam e, após quase 20 anos de luta, em 2001, conseguiram a homologação dos 27.555 hectares em que vivem. Essas mesmas terras que já viram tanta morte abrigam, hoje, mais de 11 mil indígenas que lutam diariamente contra o preconceito e a violência para manter sua cultura viva.
